Yalcin Gokcebag Exhibit
On Friday, September 14, 2007, the Mason Murer Art Gallery held the opening reception for the much-anticipated exhibit of Turkish artist Yalcin Gokcebag. This distinguished artist has been heralded for his mastery of the Naïve genre of painting in depicting rural Turkish life, and his collection of oil-on-canvas paintings, titled Anatolian Scenes, marks Mr. Gokcebag’s first exhibit in the United States. Prior to its opening in Atlanta, the exhibit toured other U.S. metropolitan cities, such as Seattle, New York, and Washington DC. The reception was a huge success, with such distinguished guests as Congressman John Lewis and Mayor Shirley Franklin attending. Wine and Turkish mezes, courtesy of Sultan’s Restaurant (5920 Roswell Rd.), were served as well.
The exhibit will be on view through October 20, 2007 at the Mason Murer Art Gallery (www.masonmurer.com).
Our heartfelt thanks to the sponsors and supporters of this exhibit: Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Turkish Cultural Foundation, Mona Diamond-Turkish Honorary Consul General for GA, Turkish American Friendship Council (ATFC), Turkish American Cultural Association of GA (TACAGA), Turkish Student Organization at Georgia Tech (TSO), Istanbul Cultural Center (ICC), the Mason Murer Art Gallery, and last, but not least, Sultan’s Restaurant (5920 Roswell Rd.; Tel: 404-257-2220). Many thanks also to Mine Hashas, Cultural Chair of the ATFC, for her hard work and dedication that made the evening such a success.
